Ambient Assisted Living (AAL)

According to the latest estimates from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the proportion of elderly people over 65 compared to the 20 to 64 years-old is expected to double by 2050. In order to face this challenge, Europe needs to re-think healthcare, especially homecare solutions.

COSTEFF welcomes the ambition of the European Union to encourage technological innovation adapted to the needs of elderly people with the creation of a Joint Programme for Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) running from 2008 to 2013.

With a view to enable elderly people to live for longer a decent life in their own home, AAL brings solutions to facilitate daily activities and improve homecare.

COSTEFF supports the development of innovative solutions to allow elderly people to live on their own or in the environment of their choice. Homecare innovations, such as industrialised blister systems or ambulant networks of services with professional assistance can contribute greatly to modernise healthcare systems.

COSTEFF will encourage debates between the major stakeholders involved in the development of AAL technologies and homecare for elderly patients and all chronically-ill persons
